Had planned something else for posting but that will have to wait for now.

Today, just as Toby, Mareike and I where leaving the house to head up to Hamburg, a DHL guy turned up and handed me a chunky envelope from Manning. It turns out, when I later opened it, that it was my free copy because I was a reviewer of the in progress manuscript.
I had started as the technical editor on this book and was going to do the indexing. Unfortuantly I feel quite ill back in late October and wasn’t sure how long it would take to recover. So, regretfully, I pulled out after doing the first chunk of the tech editing of the book.
Reading through the acknowledgments I had a plesant surprise (though missing from the reviewers list hey ho) when I found this quote:
Beyond that, tech editors are crucial to the success of a book like this, so we want to thank our original tech editor, Robert McGovern, who caught minutia that we weren’t even aware of.
His encyclopedic knowledge of the newest iPhone releases was awe-inspiring.
My thanks to Shannon and Christopher for the compliment.
Hopefully I will manage to post my thoughts on the book in the next few days. Want to have a gander over the finished version first

Apologies if this doesn’t work properly but in the next day or so I am going to switch the blog from http://blog.tarasis.net to simply http://tarasis.net
Basically given how little I actually manage to do with the real site, I thought I might as well make the blog the main point. Then use WordPress’s Pages feature to make any sub pages I might need and just have some links on the sidebar to the Wiki, Mail, Old Journal and so on.
It seems near pointless to have a nearly blank front page on http://tarasis.net and I should have done it when I first setup this new blog. Live & Learn I suppose.
BTW The reason it might break, is that I am using NGINX as the webserver and I need to read up on its redirect rules and make sure I set it up correctly.
EDITED FOR UPDATE:
Permenant Redirect  now in effect, anything pointing to http://blog.tarasis.net should now redirect to the same page at http://tarasis.net

Pardon for the language but fuck that hurts.
I’ve been awake for over an hour and a half now because I ate to late last night and snacked on crisp sticks and it has aggrivated the sore / whatever exactly it is in my asophygus. My own fault really but wasn’t quite expecting that.
Thankfully it has eased off now but boy does it bring tears to my eyes. Looks like I won’t be out tomorrow to get the last of the presents I wanted to get.
Fuck on so many levels. I cannot wait for this to go.

Toby and Mareike. When Bob was grabbing the lights they found our Xmas hats and stockings for the fire place. For whatever reason the kids decided to put them onto their feet, which was cute.
Next up, for a sense of scale, are the kids standing beside the tree. As I said we had to cut about 6 to 8 inches off to get it to fit properly under the celling. Even now with the star on there is only about 3 or 4 inches spare.
Next is the tree lit, in the dark (which the iPhone coped with fairly well I though)
This time with the main light on
Finally this is the completed tree … well mostly complete Toby wants to put a few more paper chains on it.
